For some people, to put all of their emotion out there for everyone to see may not be an easy thing to do. For Aaron Lewis, the lead singer of Staind, it was his ticket to fame. In 1996, a self released CD called Tormented was our first glimpse at who Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushok, Johnny April, and Jon Wysocki really were. It was also a CD that got them noticed by Flip Records. In 1999, their first album with Flip, Dysfunction, was released with songs like 'Mudshovel' and 'Home'. These songs became favorites to the now growing fan base that Staind was producing. Dysfunction brought itself to platinum plus staus in the music industry.
The band became a part of the Family Values Tour with other hit bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, and Limp Bizkit. It was during the Family Values Tour that Staind got their breakthrough performance chance. With Fred Durst doing back up vocals in the chorus, Aaron brought to the world what would be their biggest hit to date, 'Outside'. The song was an instant smash, being played on the radio all the time.
In 2001, Staind released yet another knock out hit CD entitled 'Break The Cycle'. This CD included songs such as 'It's Been Awhile', 'Epiphany', 'Fade', and the studio version of 'Outside'. Break The Cycle was on the Billboard top 200 album chart, entering at number 1 and selling more than 8 million copies to date. 'It's Been Awhile' stayed in the number 1 spot for 16 weeks on the Billboard Modern Rock charts.
In 2002, Staind released their MTV Unplugged DVD followed by the 2003 release of their fourth CD, 14 Shades of Grey. This CD was their second album to reach number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album charts.
Chapter V, the bands fifth and most anxiously awaited CD hit stores on August 9, 2005. This is their 3rd album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart.
